Tattoo Aftercare.

The Healing Process

Your tattoo is essentially an open wound, and it will go through different healing stages. Expect some redness, swelling, peeling, and mild itching—this is all normal! Proper care will help prevent infection and keep your tattoo looking great.

The Basics: What to Do

First Few Days

Tegaderm (if used): Leave it on for 6-7 days, unless it starts peeling, gets irritated, or starts leaking. It’s easier to remove in a nice warm shower.

No Tegaderm? Keep your tattoo clean (at least 3 times a day) with a fragrance-free soap (no bar) and pat dry with paper towels. Never used or dirty bath towels as they can hold bacteria.

  • Apply a very thin layer of ointment. After 3 days switch to unscented lotion.

(Tegaderm is a clear, breathable, adhesive medical-grade bandage)

Once the Tegaderm Comes Off

• Wash gently with soap.

• Moisturize with a thin layer of fragrance-free lotion to keep your fresh skin from drying out.

• Avoid direct sun exposure—UV rays can fade your tattoo fast. If you have to be outside, cover it up with clothing.

What to Avoid While Healing

For the First 2 Weeks (At Least!)

❌ Never apply antibiotic ointments, iodine, or any other medical-grade ointments as these can damage the tattoo.

❌ Don’t scrub your tattoo while washing with soap and water. Gently rub with your hand.

❌ No swimming, soaking, or saunas (no pools, hot tubs, lakes, or baths). Showers are fine.

❌ No excessive sweating—skip intense workouts or anything that makes you sweat a lot.

❌ No scratching or picking—let the peeling happen naturally.

❌ No tight or rough clothing over the tattoo—stick to loose, breathable fabrics.

❌ No direct sun or tanning beds.

Long-Term Care

Once healed, keep your tattoo looking sharp by moisturizing regularly and using sunscreen (SPF 30+) when exposed to the sun.

If anything seems off—like excessive redness, pain, or signs of infection—reach out, and I’ll help you figure out what’s going on.

Take care of that new ink, and enjoy your tattoo!
